Security & Crowd Management

Parasol can coordinate unarmed security guards for your pop-up or event.

General Guidelines

  • Clients are required to share their security and crowd-management plans with Parasol in advance
  • This is especially important for giveaways/freebies, celebrity or influencer appearances, high-profile events, or other programming expected to draw a crowd
  • We recommend approximately 1 security guard or dedicated event staff member per 25-50 guests
  • Security can assist with door management, capacity, guest entry, lines, and general monitoring
  • Each Parasol location has specific directions for where and how lines should form β€” please inquire with our team before planning your queue
  • Lines must keep building entrances, neighboring storefronts, and pedestrian pathways clear
  • For larger crowds, consider timed entry or a virtual queue to minimize sidewalk congestion

Sidewalk Use & SAPO Permits

If your activation plans to formally use the public sidewalk or curb lane as part of the event, a NYC Street Activity Permit Office (SAPO) permit may be required, please note applications to the city typically need to be submitted up to a month in advance.

This can include certain promotional activities, installations, red carpets, stanchions, displays, tents, or other event elements placed on public sidewalk or curb-lane space.

Please share any planned exterior activity with Parasol well in advance, as permit requirements and application deadlines vary depending on the scope of the event.

Booking Security

Send us your event details and we can review your plan, recommend coverage, and provide pricing if you would like Parasol to coordinate security. Please provide your dates and hours, expected attendance, security plan, number of guards, any specific duties or door policies, and an on-site contact.

This article is a general summary for convenience only. Clients are responsible for obtaining permits required for their activation, and the executed Parasol Projects License Agreement governs in all cases.
